My Approach

My Approach

I want the photographic experience itself to be part of your enjoyment and use it as a time to relax, get to know each other and explore some fun ideas. Lets face it – being in front of the camera is far from natural for most people, but its doesn’t take long to warm up and even a few nervous giggles can create some gorgeous on-screen fizz. What I really want to see is a natural connection between you. A simple shared smile can make all the difference in letting your natural chemistry shine through.

As a rule, I really dislike cheesy, posed photographs as I feel they lack any genuine character. What I prefer to do is use gentle prompts or tasks from which we can be explorative and creative, and create something more genuine. I may ask you to walk through a particularly beautiful area of dappled light between trees, which allows me the chance to pick out the perfect light and composition from a distance and record those authentic moments: a laugh, touch or gesture, that you may be unaware of. No pressure to pose or pretend, just a chance to relax and be natural together.

I love to encourage movement and laughter in photographs, even when it comes to photographing groups. It’s lovely to see the real giggles and personalities. And there’s always a chance to look at the camera for a more traditional portrait too!

Here are a few more things you may like to know:

I love working from a distance with soft telephoto lenses

My favourite light is the glorious golden hour

I always carry a variety of lighting to get creative when the light is low

I adore creative couples, unexpected venues and authentic moments

Detailed planning means we can go-with-the-flow on the day

But don’t worry I’m great at keeping an eye the day’s timings so you don’t have to

I like being discrete and often get mistaken for one of the guests which I think is perfect!

I’m a little bit obsessed with the weather – I guess it comes with the territory

FAQ

  • What is your full-day’s coverage?

Full-day’s coverage means I will be there to capture your day as it unfolds from your bridal preparations through the first dance and evening’s celebrations. Once the evening’s dancing starts there is often no need for me to stay beyond capturing a bit of the atmosphere, but if you have anything special planned do let me know. An average day for me would be from 10am to 9pm, but then every wedding day is different!

  • Do you do formal group shots?

There is definitely a place for a few relaxed group shots but as the best pictures are often captured when people are not aware, I steer away from a long list of formal shots. Group shots can take up to five minutes each to set up therefore I would recommend limiting them to between 8-10 main family groups. And there’s always the opportunity to gather some impromptu, less-formal shots later in the day.

  • How long does it take before I receive my wedding photographs?

On average it takes 6 weeks from your wedding date to complete a full wedding edit but during the busy wedding season it can take up to 8 weeks. I know how excited you are to get your photos but it’s definitely worth the wait to ensure you get the best quality results from your wedding photographs.

  • What is documentary style photography?

I describe my style of working as documentary, which is largely observing and recording the day naturally as it develops, in a genuine story-telling style. No bossing or shouting – that’s not my style.  I do a lot of sneaking around and occasionally you’ll find me in unusual places, (behind bushes!). Being from an artistic background I love to keep an eye out for creative opportunities and there will be time to create some gorgeous couple portraits and a handful of group shots if you wish.

  • Are all my images edited?

The short answer to this is yes! Your final collection of photographs are all individually enhanced, cropped and prepared to reflect my personal style and branding –rich, authentic and timeless. I don’t run with the fads when it comes to editing as this can really date your photographs. Instead I like to bring the best out in each image and add a creative touch where needed.

  • How long does it take before I receive my Family Lifestyle photographs?

It can take 2-3 weeks from the date of the shoot to complete the final set of your photographs.
